The Happy Gilmore-inspired shoes Joaquin Niemann wore in Detroit

Joaquin Niemann was born almost three years after the release of Happy Gilmore, but he wore shoes inspired by classic golf comedy at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Niemann’s apparel sponsor adidas collaborated with streetwear label Extra Butter to create Happy Gilmore-inspired yarns, which pay homage to Happy, his instructor, Chubbs, and Gilmore’s nemesis, Shooter McGavin.

The Niemann shoes are a Chubbs-inspired version of the adidas ZG21 lightweight spike golf shoe. The shoes feature a clean bone white colourway with brogue inserts and a retro fringed kiltie above the laces. Details like the alligator skin and wood grain finish tell the tale of the unfortunate crash that cost Chubbs their hands.

Other products in the line include a gold adicross bomber jacket to commemorate the garment that Shooter so wanted to win and a gold Ultraboost 1.0 Shooter, enhanced with plush suede, gold PRIMEKNIT and an imprint of the famous ‘Shooter’ hand. gesture.

“25 years ago a fictional character named Happy Gilmore broke the mold about what it meant to be a golfer and we wanted to celebrate that with a unique collaboration and collection,” said Ankur Amin, co-founder and CEO of Extra Butter.

It’s a collaboration that also helped Niemann finish T2 in Detroit.
