Manolo Blahnik x Birkenstock collaboration: everything you need to know about the second drop

And just like that, it was the collaboration we didn’t know we needed this season: Manolo Blahnik for Birkenstock. Now a second drop has been announced and it promises to be even more stylish than the first.

The German shoe brand reached new heights in 2020 when its sandals and clogs became the unsung heroes of lockdown, with everyone from Reese Witherspoon to the Beckhams donning theirs on countless occasions. And its popularity shows no signs of waning.

Perhaps that explains why Manolo Blahnik has become the latest fashion house to join Birkenstock’s luxury roster, following in the footsteps of Dior, Jil Sander and Valentino.

It’s the Spanish designer’s shoe expertise that makes this one particularly exciting. Pivoting from her signature heels, Blahnik fused high fashion and creative design with quality and function, leaving us with the most glamorous Birkenstock capsule collection we thought we’d seen to date. That was until her latest collaboration was announced.

Whether you prefer Arizonas or, like Blahnik, love Bostons, they’ve seen another serious update: think plush suede in a black and white polka-dot finish or Blahnik’s signature PVC material, a mainstay of its collections since the 1970s. And this time, there’s a new sandal silhouette thrown into the mix: the Rodra. Boasting a similar design to the Arizonas but with a crossover strap style, it’s opulence built for the poolside.

Compared to the rich blue and fuchsia velvet of the first collection or the classic black leather with jewel embellishments, the second drop is decidedly more minimalist and understated.

If this sounds like something you can’t wait to get your hands on, read on to find out all about the latest collab.

  • Release date: June 23
  • Available at: 1774.com and Manoloblahnik.com
  • Prices: Still to be confirmed, but the latest collection was between £495 and £560

Combining Blahnik’s signature design with the comfort of Birkenstocks, the capsule collection of four solids features an all-new take on cult Boston clogs, now reimagined in a luxurious and showy (in a good way) black and white polka dot design. The bold design embodies Blahnik’s signature style.

The Arizona sandal is also back, made in black or white PVC. This cool, transparent style is reminiscent of Blahnik’s instantly recognizable 1970s designs.

And for the latest drop in the collaboration, a whole new style has been added to the lineup. The Rodra sandal comes in the same playful black and white polka dot print, with the wide crossover straps adding an elegant touch.

As you’d expect from the designer, the shoes feature eye-catching and glamorous detailing and will retail for between £495 and £560. The hardest part is deciding between the reinvented PVC Arizona, the Boston or the new Rodra, not to mention the print and design. But whichever one you choose, they’ll arrive in a polka-dot shoebox and dustbag, staying true to Manolo Blahnik’s standard style.

Luckily, there’s not long to wait as the new line is set to drop on June 23. But with the first launch being an instant hit, you’ll want to quickly invest in a pair for yourself.
