Converse launches new colors in the Run Star Motion

WORDS BY BELLA BACKWELL
IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CONVERSE

The hugely popular Run Star Motions are back and better than ever.

The Run Star Motion is a modern and innovative take on the classic Converse models we all know and love. First exit earlier this year, the style instantly became a sought-after addition to sneaker-lover’s collections. Two new colors are now on offer, available in black and lime, here to completely redefine the style of the platform.

Converse has incredible stamina that is hard to beat. For decades, the brand has always remained a staple for many types of people across the world. The versatility of the shoes allows them to apply to any occasion, and there was a time when they were the one and only pair of shoes I wore.

When I was 20, I stacked it particularly badly in a pair of heels one night. When I woke up the next morning, I realized my leg was broken and I practically vowed not to wear high heels anymore. Enter: my favorite pair of Converse.

My black Chuck 70s have always been my everyday shoe, and following this unfortunate incident, they also became my favorite go out shoes (paired with an ankle brace, what style). I no longer had to wait until it was late enough at night to trade my sore heels for the comfort of Converse. I had an excuse to wear Converse even when the dress code was cocktail, and I couldn’t have been happier.

Now, years later, my leg has recovered (though it still clicks unattractively every time I take a step), and that same pair of Converse remain a staple in my life. This consistency is not uncommon and is a testament to the fact that Converse will always be relevant.

The Run Star Motion is no different and has already established itself as an iconic addition to the Converse collection. Designed for utility, it features a grooved rubber outsole and webbed tongue. Comfort is key here, but the expressive and unique design ensures that style is also a high priority.

It’s hard not to be impressed by the myriad of ways Converse and the designers it collaborates with can reinvent classic styles. The Run Star Motion seamlessly combines a brand staple with a new avant-garde design. The upper is a nod to the classic Chuck 70, while the lower platform changes things up.

The Run Star Motion spans the design of the Run the Star Trek, a similar shoe with a Chuck Taylor upper and oversized rubber heel. Originally a collaboration with the British label JW Anderson, overwhelming success encouraged Converse to make the shoe a permanent accessory. JW Anderson is famous for his unique designs and androgynous approach to fashion, making him the perfect partner to reinvigorate existing Converse styles.

The base of the exaggerated shoe conforms to the contrasting proportions consistently seen in JW Anderson’s pieces, taking the thick shoes trend on a whole new level. But believe me, these aren’t your dad’s sneakers.

This partnership, which resulted in the birth of the Run Star Motion, is certainly not Converse’s first collaboration with a prolific designer. Beloved brands like Neighborhood, Missoni, and Maison Margiela have all reinvented classic Converse styles in the past.

The new Run Star Motions in black and lime are here to enhance the expressive design of the originals while ensuring that comfort is not compromised. The pandemic has put comfort at the forefront of fashion, after months spent in sets of sportswear and tracksuit.

While I’m excited about the prospect of going back to my normal life and wearing real clothes again, the laid-back aesthetic of COVID fashion is something I’ve grown to love. The Run Star Motions are perfect for the post-pandemic world, ensuring comfort while exuding effortless street style.
