Buckley Christmas shoebox appeal returns for another year

A FLINTSHIRE Christmas shoebox appeal is operational for another year.

Each year, a team of dedicated volunteers in Buckley, working with the Wrexham-based Teams4U charity, send hundreds of shoe boxes full of essentials to those in need.

The boxes are filled with items such as clothes, soap, washcloths, toothbrushes / toothpaste, candy, lint, hats, gloves and scarves. They are then sent to parts of the world where children would otherwise be deprived of Christmas gifts in parts of Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

After the Bistre Methodist Chapel closed two years ago, Buckley Cross Methodist Church now serves as a collection point.

The program will run from November 1 to 19 and articles can be dropped off Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

In addition to the items listed above, the team also makes use of small kitchen utensils.

Despite the pandemic, the team led by Mac Ellis surprisingly managed to send 260 shoeboxes overseas last year – after collecting items from Mr Ellis’ garage.

They also raised over £ 600 in donations which were sent to those in need.
