Agencies in the Alliance region have announced plans to host community events offering back-to-school products to children.
In addition to local events, a third giveaway, from a national company, was also announced.
On August 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the 16th Annual Alliance Region Back-to-School Community Outreach is taking place at Alliance Evangelical Friends Church, 1307 W. State St.
The event, which organizers say aims to empower Alliance youth to succeed, will include free backpacks and basic school supplies.
Organizers say the continuing battle against COVID-19 has left the event somewhat volatile. They urge families to check online for up-to-date information.
“We ask that you check your school website or the church website (alliancefriendschurch.org) for any updates on this year’s event, including our ability to serve lunch and offer outdoor activities, as in the past.
From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on August 7, Dressed in Righteousness and The Way Outreach Center, 55 E. Main Street, in downtown Alliance, will be running its back-to-school awareness campaign.
Entries are available now, by sending a private message to the group on Facebook, at facebook.com/revelation19forregularpeople, or via email at [email protected]
Participants will receive a pair of tennis shoes, socks, underwear and hygiene items.
According to the organizers, registrations must include the number of children who are to receive goods, their sizes and their ages. Parents and children must be present on the day of the distribution.
The organizers are actively seeking volunteers for the distribution. To date, over 100 people have signed up, but more is needed. Volunteers are needed for the preparation days from August 3 to 4, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., for activities such as packing bags and labeling packages. Those who wish to help should send a note by July 20 to the group on Facebook, on the above website.
A national company also announced a gift of school supplies using its popular shopping app.
Ibotta has teamed up with major food retailers and producers to put together a giveaway of popular lunch supplies and items. Ibotta is a mobile app-based rewards platform.
Families who download the Ibotta app or Ibotta browser extension before August 31 can sign up to receive free items available in-store at Walmart; online at Target.com; via HEB.com; Walmart pickup and delivery; Instacart; or Ship.
Gift items must include a five-star, 3-topic notebook; Package of 12 Ticonderoga pencils; Box of 110 Kleenex units; Nature’s Own loaf of bread; Jar of Skippy Peanut Butter; a squeeze bottle of Smucker’s Fruit Spread; and a pack of 3 Paper Mate erasers.
