In New Zealand, properties must meet certain criteria to be suitable for rental.
They include a kitchen or kitchenette with a sink and a tap connected to drinking water; a bathroom with bath or shower, running hot water and toilets, connected to an adequate drainage system; and artificial lights and windows in every room.
Although the London apartment does not have a toilet inside the bedroom, it does have access to a shared toilet, similar to many UK studios and studios.
In New Zealand, however, accommodation for a single person to rent must be at least 11m², while accommodation suitable for a couple must be at least 14m², and in both cases the property must have a kitchen. or a separate kitchenette, which means the London apartment probably wouldn’t meet the criteria for a rental here.
At 10m², it’s still far from being the smallest apartment to rent on London’s overheated rental market.
In January, an apartment is put on the market with a single bed, less than half a meter from the sink, comprising a half room which had been subdivided.
In 2020 an apartment came on the market that seemed innovative and spacious by comparison, with the bed on a loft platform above the kitchenette and washing machine.
In the same year, a London apartment with an in-room shower went on sale for just under $400,000, making the 2022 shower apartment look like a mansion.
